People often ask us how we came up with the name, Minnow Media. Donna used to sell bait and dip minnows at her family's store. She even had her own fishing report on a radio station near Charlotte. Georgann grew up in Atlanta fishing with a cane pole for bream
in her grandmother's pond on warm days after grade school. But that's not the reason.
We believe that true documentary work is very much like fishing. You cast a line into dark waters, not knowing what might come up. Our projects are not scripted. Sure, we usually know who we want to interview, and what we think we may learn. We have some questions in mind, but it is always the unexpected turn in the conversations, the surprising themes that emerge, that make this work so rewarding.
